In a dangerous escalation amid rising tensions, several Israeli media outlets, most notably The Jerusalem Post and The Times of Israel, have recently circulated a baseless narrative claiming that the United Arab Emirates launched a military strike against an Iranian water desalination facility. These reports framed the alleged incident as the UAE’s “first offensive move” in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. This claim is categorically false.
On March 8, 2026, The Jerusalem Post published a report alleging that the UAE had retaliated against Iran by targeting civilian infrastructure on Qeshm Island. This narrative was quickly amplified by other Hebrew-language platforms, including The Times of Israel and i24NEWS, creating a digital echo chamber that sought to paint the UAE as an active combatant in a wider regional war.
Emirati officials moved swiftly to dismantle these fabrications. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defense, Interior, and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council, took to social media to label the reports as “fake news.” His message was clear:
“When we do something, we have the courage to announce it. The UAE will never place the Iranian people in the same basket as the Iranian regime.”
Senior government sources emphasized that the UAE maintains a sovereign, independent foreign policy and would never target humanitarian or civilian infrastructure like desalination plants, which are vital for regional survival.
The spreading of such a disinformation campaign by The Jerusalem Post is far more than a mere journalistic failure; it is a calculated attempt to manufacture regional consensus and force the UAE into a military confrontation. By attributing false military actions to Abu Dhabi, these outlets risk destabilizing sensitive diplomatic ties and endangering civilian lives through retaliatory escalation based on lies. Such misinformation becomes even more dangerous in a region already facing strategic instability around critical global chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz.
The UAE remains committed to self-defense and transparency, standing firm against media attempts to weaponize its name for external political agendas.
