Persistent Vows and a Permanent Peace Agreement

With the US and Iran nearing toward a permanent peace agreement with unmatched efforts of Pakistan, the geopolitical landscape is on the precipice of a significant transformation. Historically, Iran’s foreign policy remained focus on different ideological concerns after the revolution of 1979.

In 1980s, Iranian doctrine was built on death to the USSR, which it succeeded. Iran than shifted its focus on Iraq and Saddam Hussein in 1990s. Having hostilities with Iraq and USSR, the West supported and applauded as these adversaries fell. With the fall of common adversaries, the hostilities between Iran and the United States, along with Israel, started to increase in early 2000s.

Iranians labels the US as the Great Satan and Israel as the Little Satan. These vows were never meant to go for a genocidal approach of mass killings of civilian population, but to give an ideologically humiliating defeat to the West. In other words, Iran wants to reject the idea of neo-imperialism and Zionist expansionism.

The US and Iran are now headings towards securing a permanent peace deal, which is a proof that Iran succeeded in dismantling the influence of the US in the Middle Eastern region. Long with that, Iran has managed to globally isolate a Zionist driven Israel. Moreover, this may constitute the essence of what these vows originally aimed to achieve.

As the conflicting parties are heading toward signing a peace deal, and if they managed to secure it, Israel will be isolated diplomatically which can be a source of future instability in the region. Along with Israel, India is also characterized for its right-wing leaning which can boost cooperation between both ring-wing states and can jointly go for destabilizing region. Furthermore, India is preparing to host the BRICS summit and it can use this platform to boost morale.

India and Pakistan are also at extreme odds right now. India’s majoritarian trend and ideological closeness to Israel can be a problem for Pakistan in future. Meanwhile, Pakistan is lauded for its pivotal role in mediating this monumental peace deal.

Therefore, Iran’s persistent resistance has challenged the Western dominated order. Although, there is a potential signing of the peace deal, yet the implications for the regional power remains profound as long as the majoritarianism and Zionism in India and Israel persists. The major reason behind Iran’s face saving is its consistent abiding sense of national self-respect.
