There is an evolving military posture of India under the leadership of Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, as he continuously targets Pakistan with his aggressive rhetoric by giving choice to Pakistan whether it wants to be part of geography or history. This dangerous shift in operational strategies adopted by India Army, as a result of an unprecedented response from Pakistan following the events of May 2025, threatens regional peace and stability.
There is an urgent need to focus on disregard for the principles of strategic restraint under the current Indian military hierarchy. Indian Army Chief and Chief of Defense Staff are framing Pakistan as a two-front threat along with China and they have normalized cross-border retaliation as a new normal. Moreover, Indian leadership has abandoned caution in favor of the so-called anti-terror doctrine. This mindset shows that the leadership desires for operational legacy heavily influenced by Hindutva ideology.
Furthermore, as India and Pakistan both are nuclear armed states, any miscalculation can result into catastrophic consequences for the region. Moreover, the new contours of modern warfare such as Artificial intelligence, drone warfare, and cyber-attacks has drastically compressed decision making capabilities to mere seconds. Therefore, this technological advancement with enhanced readiness has removed the critical buffer needed for evaluating an adversary’s intentions, while increasing the risk of accidental nuclear escalation.
Pakistan has also begun to recalibrate its security calculus while keeping in view India’s hawkishness, as seen in the Shangri-La dialogue 2026. Islamabad is pivoting toward maximum operational readiness and rapid-response deterrence because the conventional deterrence techniques are now increasingly limited with rapid tech-advancements. In addition, the classical Cold War nuclear risk ladder is failing in South Asia, where psychological escalation can reach a critical threshold which can overcome nuclear stability.
India’s reckless doctrinal shift focused on military trajectory is a warning for the world as India will continue to show aggression. To counter India’s madness, Pakistan need to assert an unequivocal and clear nuclear policy. This will help Pakistan to ensure that its deterrence remains credible and muscular to prevent aggressive posturing and a catastrophic misjudgment.
