Pakistan has taken a major step towards modernising governance with the launch of the Artificial Intelligence-based Prime Minister Office System (PMOS), a digital platform designed to monitor every directive issued by the prime minister from start to finish.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally launched the system during a ceremony in Islamabad, describing it as a transformative initiative that will replace traditional paper-based workflows with a technology-driven approach focused on transparency, efficiency and accountability.
The AI-powered platform has been developed to record, communicate, monitor and track all directives issued by the prime minister. Unlike conventional administrative systems, PMOS follows each instruction throughout its entire lifecycle, from the moment it is issued to its implementation, verified completion and even post-completion monitoring. This creates a digital record of progress while enabling officials to identify delays, measure performance and ensure that government decisions are executed effectively.
Speaking at the launch, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed all ministries and government departments to immediately adopt the new system. He emphasised that Pakistan’s federal administration must move away from manual paperwork and embrace digital governance.
“From today onwards, I will not expect any of you with a file in your hands. Everything will be discussed through this mechanism,” the prime minister said, signalling a clear shift away from traditional file-based administration.
He noted that the platform would improve coordination across government institutions, accelerate decision-making and make public service delivery more efficient. By centralising directives and allowing real-time monitoring, PMOS is expected to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks that have often slowed the implementation of government policies.
The initiative also represents another milestone in Pakistan’s broader digital transformation agenda. Governments around the world are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence into public administration to improve operational efficiency, automate routine processes and strengthen accountability. Pakistan’s adoption of an AI-assisted monitoring platform places greater emphasis on data-driven governance, where progress can be tracked digitally rather than relying solely on manual reporting.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the efforts of Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and the Secretary IT for developing and operationalising the system. He praised the Ministry of IT for introducing a platform that has the potential to reshape the functioning of the Prime Minister’s Office and improve coordination across the federal government.
The launch ceremony was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Shaza Fatima Khawaja and several senior government officials, reflecting the significance the government has attached to the initiative.
If implemented effectively across ministries and departments, PMOS could become a central pillar of Pakistan’s digital governance framework. By replacing paper files with an integrated AI-enabled system, the government aims to ensure that directives are not only issued but also tracked, verified and completed with greater speed and transparency. The success of the platform will ultimately depend on its adoption across the federal bureaucracy and the consistent use of its monitoring capabilities to improve administrative performance and public service delivery.
