Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has reaffirmed that the Armed Forces of Pakistan stand fully prepared to assist the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and civil administration in relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts as the country continues to face heavy monsoon rains.

During a visit to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) at the NDMA Headquarters on Tuesday, the CDF received a comprehensive briefing on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and the coordinated response mechanisms in place for the ongoing monsoon season, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The briefing highlighted the country’s evolving disaster management framework, including the operational capabilities of the NEOC and the use of advanced technology to monitor weather-related emergencies. Officials demonstrated Disaster Lens 2026, an integrated monitoring platform designed to provide real-time situational awareness through multi-hazard surveillance and forecasting, enabling authorities to respond more effectively to emerging threats.
Field Marshal Asim Munir commended the NDMA for its continued efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s national disaster management capacity. He stressed the importance of maintaining a high state of preparedness, ensuring close coordination among federal, provincial and district authorities, and delivering a swift response to protect lives, property and critical infrastructure during emergencies.
The visit comes as several parts of Pakistan continue to experience heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding and damage in vulnerable areas. During a recent meeting of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC), officials informed participants that coordinated relief and response operations were ongoing across affected regions, with multiple government agencies working together to provide assistance to impacted communities.
Authorities also warned that rainfall is expected to persist over northern and central Pakistan in the coming days, while isolated showers are forecast for parts of southeastern Sindh. Disaster management agencies remain on alert, closely monitoring weather developments and preparing for any further emergencies that may arise.
Officials noted that the majority of fatalities recorded during the current monsoon season have been caused by the collapse of unsafe or poorly constructed buildings rather than direct flooding. The findings have underscored the urgent need for stricter enforcement of building safety regulations, improved urban planning, and greater public awareness regarding structural risks during extreme weather events.
The Armed Forces’ assurance of support, combined with the NDMA’s expanding technological capabilities and coordinated emergency response framework, is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to respond effectively to the challenges posed by the ongoing monsoon season.
