Security forces killed 10 terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday, as Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign continues against militant groups operating in the province.
According to the military’s media wing, the first encounter took place on Thursday in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan district, where a group of militants attempted to attack security forces’ check posts. The attack was effectively thwarted by the troops, leading to an intense exchange of fire.

“During ensuing fire exchange, eight khawarij were sent to hell through effective and precise engagements by own troops,” ISPR said.
The military identified the militants as members of Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khawarij, a term used by the state for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
In a separate engagement in Dir district on the same day, security forces killed two additional terrorists, according to ISPR. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the militants. The military said the killed terrorists had remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area. Following the encounters, sanitisation operations were being conducted to search the areas for any remaining militants and ensure that no further threat remained, ISPR said. It added that the counterterrorism campaign would continue “at full pace” to eliminate the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces for their actions and commended their professionalism in thwarting the attempted attack in Azam Warsak.

“The nation stands with its brave security forces and law enforcement agencies and views their sacrifices against terrorism with utmost appreciation”, President Zardari said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the security forces for successfully conducting the operations and eliminating the militants.
“The nefarious designs of elements spreading terrorism under Indian patronage will be thwarted at any cost. The government and the entire nation stand with the security forces in the war against terrorism,” the prime minister said.
The latest operations underscore the continuing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan. Security forces have intensified operations against militant networks in recent years as attacks targeting law-enforcement personnel and military installations have increased. The government has repeatedly vowed to pursue militant groups and strengthen counterterrorism efforts. The latest operations in South Waziristan and Dir, according to ISPR, reflect the security forces’ continued efforts to prevent attacks and dismantle militant infrastructure in the province.
